CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
Creative Movement Ages 3 – 4 years
Musical awareness is introduced through rhythmic games and skills, and connected to the movement explored. * Must be potty trained!
Pre-Ballet Age 5-6 years old
Students begin the study of classical ballet through age appropriate technique focusing on coordination, musical and spatial awareness. Elements of creative movement enhance basic Ballet movements.
Ballet I - Ballet III Ages 6 – 9 years
Introducing and reinforcing the fundamentals of Ballet; barre-work helps students to develop strength, discipline and proper body alignment. Self-expression is developed while exploring quality of movement.
Ballet IV - Advanced Ballet Ages 10 & up
Continuing the development of proper body alignment, strength and discipline needed as dancers mature. Proper technique is taught while encouraging self expression through this beautiful art form. At this level the student is required to take at least two ballet classes per week. Pointe for girls may be added at age 12.
Modern Dance Ages 10 & up
This class concentrates on body awareness, exploring different levels, traveling movements and positions and increasing the body’s strength and flexibility. The concept of fall and recovery, jumps, turns, improvisation and exploration of different musical rhythms and their dynamics are introduced.
Ballet Barre class Teen-Adults
Taught by a trained dancer, this class is designed to lengthen, strengthen, stretch and tone while concentrating on correct poster and form. Class will start on the mat using a combination of Pilates, Yoga and floor barre and then continue at the ballet barre where we will incorporate classic ballet combinations. This class is great for any level and no ballet experience is necessary.
Jazz Dance Ages 10 & up
This class will introduce the principles of jazz dance technique. The one-hour class begins with a warm-up, isolations and stretching. Students learn fundamental jazz steps and movement combinations.
Tap Dance Ages 8 & up
An introduction to the principles of tap dance technique. Students learn the fundamental steps of tap dance including basic one and two sound movements and simple rhythmic combinations in the center.
CLASS ATTIRE
Masks are optional for both Providence Ballet faculty members and students while on the premises.
Creative Movement - Any color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes
Pre-Ballet - Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes
Ballet I-Adv. Ballet - Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes (ballet skirts are at the sole discretion of the instructor.)
Modern - Black leotard, black or pink tights, bare feet
Jazz - Black leotard, black tights or Jazz pants, Jazz shoes
Tap - Black leotard, black or pink tights (jazz pants or skirts are allowed) Tap shoes
Boys: White fitted t-shirt, black tights, black jazz pants or bike shorts, plus class appropriate shoes.
