About Us
Providence Ballet Inc. was founded in June 1995. Its satellite school in East Greenwich was opened in the summer of 1998 and in June 2022 our satellite school made a move to its current location, 63 Cedar Ave, #10 East Greenwich. Each location is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment of technical training at its highest.
The Providence Ballet School offers classes for students starting at age three through adults. We provide Creative Movement for our young beginning dancers introducing musical awareness, improving coordination and movement exploration. Our rigorous Ballet technique develops with the appropriate fundamentals for each level developing proper alignment, strength, and discipline to encourage expression through the art of dance. We also provide Modern, Contemporary and Jazz dance classes for children eight years and up. All of our staff are qualified professionals, many still performing Artists. All teachers have had years of experience working with both children and adults. Our students come from all over the state, as well as from our neighborhood in South Providence. We never turn away a student for financial reasons. Each year approximately five percent of our dance classes are free to any student who demonstrates need. Our Providence studio has become a vibrant artistic hub in an otherwise struggling part of the city. Our school has also become a pipeline sending students onto perform with the Providence Youth Ballet and Providence Ballet Theatre. Students audition, rehearse and perform in a professional setting. Providence Ballet Theatre is the third branch of an organization stemming from the original Providence Ballet School. In 2008, the not-for-profit professional Providence Ballet Theatre made its debut. Since then, performances by the Providence Ballet Theatre include an original production of “Twas the Night Before Christmas,” our contribution to the Holiday Season, our annual Spring Concert which includes original Ballet and Contemporary works as well as our original productions of Hansel and Gretel and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with an original score by Tony Lustig and The Magic Box, an original work created in collaboration with Rhode Island School of Design. Providence Ballet Inc. prides itself on giving all students the best training possible, whether the student's goal is recreational or for a future in the performing arts. |
